A percentage represents a portion of a whole out of 100. To find a percentage of a number, convert the percentage to a decimal by dividing it by 100 and multiply it by the number. For example, 20% of 500 is calculated as (20 ÷ 100) × 500, which equals 100. To determine what percentage one number is of another, divide the first number by the second number and multiply by 100.
